The corpus has recently expanded with texts written by several renowned authors, e. g. Germanist Adam Bžoch, writer, literary critic and journalist Bohuš Bodacz, a married couple and translators Julia and Peter Sherwood, leading writer of the Slovak minority in the former Yugoslavia Víťazoslav Hronec, translator of Italian literature Stanislav Vallo, young author Andrea Rimová, translator of French, English, American and Irish literature Igor Navrátil, translator of French literature and literary scientist Katarína Bednárová, thanks to whom the corpus now also contains works of the renowned Slovak writer and translator Alfonz Bednár. The corpus has been enriched with new texts from publishing house Mayer Media, civic associations Fénix and Občan, demokracia a zodpovednosť, as well as from other educational or scientific institutions, e. g. Faculty of Dramatic Arts of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and Industrial Property Office of the Slovak Republic. International conference Slovko 2015

The 8th international conference Slovko 2015 entitled NLP, Corpus Linguistics, Lexicography, biennially organized by the SNC Department and co-organized this year by SCSTI was held on 21 and 22 October 2015 in the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information (SCSTI) in Bratislava. Two conference days offered 16 presentations – 4 in English, 9 in Czech and 3 in Slovak. The conference brought together mainly foreign participants, in particular from the Czech Republic, Slovenia and France. An e-version of the book of proceedings is available on the SNC website.


European Researchers' Night 2015

The SNC Department once again took part and presented new results in the event European Researchers' Night, which took place on 25 September 2015 in the Old Market Hall in Bratislava. We provided information about how the corpora are used and what are their functions. We also offered a quiz on the corpus and (not only) Slovak language for which people could win an interesting prize. All quiz questions, correct answers and winning names drawn in the lottery can be found on the website about the participation of the SNC at European Researchers' Night 2015.


European Day of Languages

The morning event co-organized by the SNC Department was held on Hviezdoslav Square on 25 September 2015. The aim was to give the public (youngsters in particular) information on the European languages, language projects and to learn how to speak about protecting the environment in various languages by means of a common language game.


New version of the web portal www.slovake.eu

The project was aimed to extend the existing web portal for learning Slovak online. The portal will contain enhanced and very new lessons as well as new exercises and dictionaries. The new version is to be launched in late 2015.


Practical workshops

The workshop Querying written corpora for beginners was organized on 22 May 2015 in the SNC Department, beginning with a general presentation about the Slovak National Corpus and its databases. Serbian students from the University of Belgrade took part in the workshop. The students could learn about how to use the query system NoSketch Engine and how to search for a lemma, a word form or a tag.


The Week of Science and Technics in the Slovak National Corpus

In the framework of The Week of Science and Technics in Slovakia, the Ľ. Štúr Institute of Linguistics will organize a number of events. The SNC Department will offer several presentations and practical workshops for people interested in the work with the Slovak National Corpus and its databases.
